Whenever a vehicle changes registration, it must be issued with a valid roadworthy certificate. The roadworthy certificate is issued by a licensed vehicle tester, after a thorough inspection that ensures the vehicle is safe to be driven on public roads.
This inspection just ensures the vehicle is safe to legally drive, it does not guarantee that the vehicle is in perfect condition. The roadworthy inspection includes:
- wheels and tyres
- steering, suspensions and braking systems
- seats and seatbelts
- lights and reflectors
- windscreen, and windows including front wipers and washers
- vehicle structure
- other safety related items on the body, chassis or engine.
If you have your vehicle inspected and it does not pass, you have 14 days to have it repaired and returned for reinspection. If you can organise the second inspection within the two weeks, then it’s free!
